The service

Trade the Scroll is a mobile app for iPhone and Android that intercepts the apps you choose to watch with a full-screen wall built from your own photos and one activity suggestion, and keeps a log of what you did instead. It needs no account.

It requires a compatible phone and the permissions it asks for when you set it up: Screen Time authorisation and a Shortcuts personal automation on iPhone, Usage Access and the overlay permission on Android, plus notifications if you want them.

Free trial and one-time purchase

Trade the Scroll is paid once. The first 14 days after installation are free, with every feature and without a card. After that, the app opens on a purchase screen. The wall keeps firing for one more week so you are never left unarmed mid-course, then it stops until you buy.

The purchase is a single non-consumable item at 44.99 EUR, made through the Apple App Store or Google Play. Prices in other currencies are shown in the store before you confirm. There is no subscription, nothing renews, and you are never charged again.

The trial clock lives on your phone. Deleting all data or reinstalling does not reset it on the same device.

Restore purchases

A purchase can be restored on any phone signed into the same App Store or Google Play account, with the Restore purchases button on the purchase screen and in the app settings.

Refunds

The purchase is made through Apple or Google, and refunds follow their policies. Request a refund through the App Store or Google Play, not by email: we have no ability to charge or refund you directly.

No account

There is no account to create and none to delete. Your data lives on your phone and nowhere else, except the opt-in copy sync makes in your own iCloud Drive or Google Drive, which belongs to you. See the Privacy Policy for what leaves the device.

Acceptable use

You agree not to reverse engineer the app, to circumvent the purchase, or to use Trade the Scroll in violation of applicable law. The app is for managing your own screen time on your own phone, not someone else’s.

Intellectual property

The Trade the Scroll name, app, activity catalogue and texts are protected. The apps you choose to watch (Instagram, TikTok and others) belong to their owners, are not affiliated with Trade the Scroll and do not endorse it.

How the wall depends on your phone

On iPhone, the wall relies on a Shortcuts personal automation that you create during onboarding and can delete at any time; if it is missing, the Screen Time shield still stands and one tap brings the wall back. On Android, the wall needs the Usage Access and overlay permissions and runs a small foreground service with a persistent notification. Operating systems batch background work, so a notification can arrive with delay.

We may evolve or discontinue features. If a change substantially reduces what you paid for, we say so in the app.

Not medical advice

Trade the Scroll is a self-regulation tool, not a treatment. If your relationship with your phone is causing you distress, please talk to a health professional.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim related to Trade the Scroll is limited to the amount you paid for the app. Nothing in these terms limits rights that consumer law grants you and that cannot be waived.

Governing law

These terms are governed by French law. If you are a consumer in the European Union, you also keep the mandatory protections of your country of residence.
